Optional setup · Clip Relay
Set up Clip Relay controls in Stream Deck
Start and stop a take with a key on your Stream Deck. No additional plugin is needed.
Before you begin
Open Clip Relay and the Elgato Stream Deck app on the same Mac. Finish Clip Relay’s setup, connect your camera, and check that Clip Relay shows Ready. Keep Clip Relay open while using these controls.
1. Add a Record button
- In the Stream Deck app, expand System in the actions list.
- Drag Website onto an empty key.
- Set its title to Record.
- Paste
clip-relay://recordinto the URL field. - Leave the browser selection at its default. Do not select GET request in background.
The Website action can open app shortcuts as well as web pages. This address sends the Record command to Clip Relay.
2. Add a Stop button
Drag another System → Website action onto a different key. Set its title to Stop and its URL to clip-relay://stop. Use the same browser setting as above.
Use separate Record and Stop keys. Record is not a toggle: pressing it again does not stop your take. Stop ends the recording and starts Clip Relay’s normal automatic save to your chosen folder.
3. Try a short take
Press Record and check that Clip Relay shows Recording. After a few seconds, press Stop. Wait for saving to finish, then open the saved clip to check it. If macOS or your browser asks to open Clip Relay, allow it.
These are shortcut buttons, so they do not show a live recording light or transfer progress on the Stream Deck. Use Clip Relay’s window to confirm recording and saving status.
Optional extra keys
Add another Website action for either of these commands:
- Connect camera:
clip-relay://connect - Retry saving:
clip-relay://retry— use when Clip Relay offers Retry saving for an unfinished transfer.
If a key does not work
Check that the URL matches exactly, with no spaces, and that the action is Website rather than Open Application. Turn off GET request in background. Open Clip Relay yourself, check the camera connection, and try the same command using the app’s button. Finish any open setup or confirmation dialog first.
