GIF Deck guide: A little GIF playlist

GIF Deck is coming soon to Elgato Marketplace. This guide explains the experience and how its controls work.

Choose a small collection with a shared mood

One GIF is a favorite. A few GIFs can give your touchscreen a little variety throughout the day. Try a collection of pet reactions, a few matching abstract loops, or animations in the colors of your desk. A consistent theme makes a small display feel considered without demanding your attention.

You do not have to fill every dial to make a playlist. GIF Deck’s Play GIFs action can hold multiple GIFs in one touchscreen section. Other dials can keep doing their own jobs while that single section plays your collection.

Add each GIF with its own picker

Select the Play GIFs action in Stream Deck. Choose the first local GIF, then use + Add GIF to add another. Each newly added GIF starts playing automatically; tap the touchscreen or press the dial to pause. Each entry has its own file picker, a Play this GIF button, and a Remove control. This lets you replace an individual item without starting the whole collection again.

The collection is not restricted to three GIFs. Add the items you want, keeping each within the file and frame limits shown in the plugin. Start with a handful so you can see how the collection feels before adding a much longer sequence.

Choose a sequence or one favorite

Enable Play GIFs one after another to move through your list in order and repeat the collection. Start with Forward loop for a straightforward sequence. Watch the end of each animation as well as the beginning: a long pause built into a GIF will still shape how the playlist feels.

If you would rather keep a single favorite on screen, turn sequential playback off and choose Play this GIF beside that item. The selected animation then uses the playback mode you choose. You can keep the rest of the collection saved for a different day.

Make the movement comfortable to live with

Try Half speed for decorative loops that feel too energetic next to your work. Use dial scrubbing when you want to revisit a moment; Gently resume after seeking returns a previously playing GIF to motion when you finish. A paused GIF stays paused while you inspect frames.

Review the playlist on the device at your normal viewing distance. Remove animations whose subjects disappear at this size, and adjust the picture fit when a useful detail is cropped. A short collection of readable favorites usually makes a better desk display than a large list you never look at.
